Axel Springer acquires a majority interest in Visual Meta GmbH

Axel Springer has acquired a majority interest in Visual Meta GmbH. Company founders Robert M. Maier, 31, and Johannes Schaback, 29, will remain with the company over the long term as managing partners. Founded in 2008, the company operates various portals for visual product searches in seven European countries.

Michael von Stern, Head of Commerce at the Electronic Media division at Axel Springer AG: “Visual Meta is market leader, profitable, dynamically growing, founder-managed and thus an excellent enhancement of our performance marketing portfolio.”

Through Visual Meta’s platforms like for example ladenzeile.de online shops provide consumers with visual and text search options to browse through the product range of online stores. Revenue is generated through success-based compensation for product views.
